Vertical, together with Pfizer Oy, helped the IBD nurses association of Finland adapt and enrich the N-ECCO (Nurses of European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization) recommendations to better utilize them in nursing IBD patients in Finland.
In this assignment, we studied the recommendations with the nurses, facilitated their work in enriching them with patient insights and practical advice stemming from their long experience, and finally turned them into pragmatic and visualized guidelines for every IBD nurse to utilize in their work. The long-term goal of creating and communicating these guidelines is to establish a consistent way of working for IBD nursing, and enable sharing of best practices.

“This project was a truly inspiring and novel experience for us IBD nurses. It was great that we got to engage in multidisciplinary collaboration, and we can certainly be proud of the outcome. We particularly appreciated how practical the recommendations became and how visually well they were presented – that will surely increase their use in everyday work. It was also nice to gather with colleagues, exchange ideas, and learn new things at the same time!” – Workshop participants’ summarized feedback
Bringing together these top professionals to discuss and share their experiences and best practices, and creating an informative but visual presentation of these insights for every nurse to use in their daily work was an effective and exciting experience for all involved.

“It was a great pleasure to make this project possible, which was born from the IBD nurses’ own needs and wishes. In this project, we were able to dive deep into the challenges and opportunities of IBD care, and it was wonderful to see how enthusiastic professionals shone in their work and during the project. It was great to see how the pieces fell into place with such diverse expertise, and the project resulted in a concrete and usable tool to support nursing work.” – Karoliina Ylänne, Health Solutions Partner, Pfizer Oy
Our goal was to create clear, practical guidelines that promote consistent IBD nursing practices and knowledge sharing. Here’s how we made an impact:
- Collaboration: Facilitated a two-day workshop to bring together top professionals, the nurses, to discuss the recommendations and share best practices.
- Enrichment: Incorporated experienced nurses’ insights and practical advice into the guidelines.
- Visualization: Designed engaging visuals and a user-friendly format for the outcomes, shared on the Finnish IBD nurse association’s member portal.
